What to Verify Before Ordering

These are the points that most often cause a wrong order on this specific part number. They are not generic advice.

Compiled from manufacturer catalog strings and distributor listings. Verify against your own equipment's parts manual before ordering. This is not an offer or a quotation.

How the sources word it

Distributor specification. The 24 V side of the family is stated as 24Vac/12Vdc and is meant for intermittent pilot, direct spark and hot-surface ignition — not for a standing pilot with a thermopile.

What it fits and where it is used

Gas safety and regulation on electronic-ignition fryers — intermittent pilot, direct spark and hot-surface ignition systems. Used on Hobart 1HGC/1HGD fryers and on Vulcan GRD electronic-ignition builds.

What it does and how it fails

A combination valve: a safety magnet held by the ignition board's flame signal, a diaphragm operator that the board opens, a pressure regulator and a gas cock in one body. This is a 24 V AC valve for electronic ignition — it is opened by the ignition board, not by a millivolt thermostat. Most 'bad valve' diagnoses are really a missing call, a weak thermopile or a dirty inlet screen.

Symptom check — is this 24 V gas valve the cause?

SymptomThis part?Check first
Ignition sequence runs, main burner never lightsPossible — operator not pulling inCall signal at the operator terminals, then inlet pressure
Burner lights and then drops outPossible — safety circuit losing holdFlame-sense signal and sensor condition
Burner stays on after the call endsYes — operator stuck open (safety)Stop using the fryer; verify with the call removed before replacing anything
Valve chatters or buzzesPossible — low operating signalSupply voltage / millivolts, loose spade terminals, corroded ground

How to test it before you replace it

  1. Confirm the call: at the operator terminals measure 24 V AC while the controller is calling for heat. No signal means the valve is being blamed for an upstream fault.
  2. Measure inlet pressure with a manometer (a licensed gas fitter's job, not a multimeter job) and compare it with the maximum inlet on this record: 14 in WC.
  3. Check the regulator setting against this record (see table) and confirm the spring matches the gas being used.
  4. Inspect the inlet screen and the pilot outlet for debris; a blocked pilot outlet gives a flame that looks fine but does not play on the thermopile.
  5. If the valve is being replaced, match inlet/outlet, capacity and porting — not just the footprint.
These are standard electrical and gas-side checks for the device family, not a service manual for your fryer. Work with the appliance isolated, and have gas-side work done by a qualified fitter. Where this page states a value, it is copied from the specification table above; where it does not, the reading is only meaningful against your appliance manual.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between -00028 and -00029?

-00028 is the natural-gas build and -00029 the propane build of the same 24 V valve.

Can this replace a millivolt valve?

No. A 24 V electronic-ignition valve and a millivolt valve are not interchangeable — the ignition systems differ.

What is the regulator setpoint?

Published sources disagree (3.0 in WC vs 3.5 in WC). Confirm against the data plate of your fryer rather than relying on a catalog value.

China Sourcing Notes

Capillary, millivolt and high-limit thermostats in these part families are produced in volume in China. Public supplier directories list manufacturers concentrated in specific industrial clusters: Zhongshan (Guangdong) for capillary, millivolt and deep-fryer thermostats; Wenzhou (Zhejiang) for capillary, gas, immersion and mechanical thermostats with OEM/ODM capability; and Jinan (Shandong) for gas-valve and thermostatic gas-control components. When sourcing these parts from China, verify: dimensional drawings, sensing-bulb and capillary specifications, temperature accuracy, electrical ratings, cycle-life testing and applicable safety certifications (CE / CQC / UL). A high-limit safety thermostat must not be substituted on the basis of physical fit alone.
